Digital payments of the early Web

In the Web’s younger years, First Virtual introduced a “virtual PIN” for use in online commerce transactions and money transfers. The PIN was linked to a credit card or bank account, and was used instead of the original account numbers, alleviating worry about account numbers being stolen. First Virtual wanted a new M.C. Escher-esque identity for their online presence which felt digital, dimensional, trusted, and bank-like, all at the same time.
